Enhanced – “911” – Activation Shebandowan Local Services Board Area
Your Shebandowan Local Services Board is pleased to announce that effective Wednesday, December 12, 2018, the Enhanced – 911 Emergency Communication Service was activated throughout the community.
All emergencies can now be reported by simply dialing – 911
PLEASE REMEMBER – “911” – IS TO BE USED FOR EMERGENCY PURPOSES ONLY
When using this service please be prepared to provide the dispatcher with the following information:
– Nature of your Emergency (examples, Medical Help Req’d, Police Help Req’d)
– Your New Property Address (examples, 141 Pine Ridge Rd, 2130 Hwy # 11)
You must have your new property address (house) number {Blue Number Sign} for your residence or business, which was installed earlier this summer, displayed and clearly visible.
The Local Services Board expresses thanks to Bell Canada for their support in implementing this vital service to improve safety and security for the residents of our community. The Emergency 911 Service is available 24 hr. / day, 365 days / year. Property owners can call 911 from any location within the boundaries of the Local Services Board.
NOTE The previous multiple numbers used for fire and medical assistance are obsolete and should no longer be used. Simply dial -911.
The old Fire Road Number System (example J3 – 4) is now obsolete and obsolete signs at road entrances and individual properties should be removed by property owners.
Thank You,
Your Shebandowan Local Services Board & Shebandowan Volunteer Fire Dept

RE: IMPORTANT NEW ADDRESSES
As you are probably aware, Shebandowan Local Services Board is in the process of bringing 9-1-1 to our community. Emergency 9-1-1 is the internationally recognized three-digit telephone number which is used to report an emergency or to request emergency assistance and makes it faster and easier to reach police, fire, and ambulance services. Enhanced 9-1-1 means that the name, address, and phone number of the 9-1-1 caller made from a landline phone are displayed to the call taker at the dispatch centre. Bell Canada is the 9-1-1 service provider for Ontario.
Difficulties have often been encountered by emergency services trying to locate properties by using elaborate directions that usually require familiarity with the area. The first order of business is to deliver accurate property identification and assign each property a property address according to Bell’s requirements. It can be very confusing for emergency services to try and locate your property without an accurate address. New “house numbers” have been assigned to those properties that required it and roads have been named. Any past confusion experienced when explaining where you live is virtually non-existent with the property address.
Your new property address number will be displayed on a reflective property sign. The target completion date to have property address’s installed is August 15, 2018. These signs are perhaps the most integral part of the addressing system. In the event of a 9-1-1 call, emergency services will be relying on these signs to find the correct roads and properties that will lead them to the emergency.
Shebandowan Local Services Board has prepared a property addressing system for your road, as part of the 9-1-1 system. You are therefore assigned a new address that will come into effect when signs are installed on owner’s properties. This address will assist emergency service vehicles, utilities, and delivery services to locate your property. Once the signage is installed, please remove your old fire number.
As example, if you have a property on Pine Ridge Rd & a property sign #123 has been installed at your driveway, then your new address would be 123 Pine Ridge Rd, Shebandowan, ON, P0T 2T0.
Please note:
Your property address which is used for emergency purposes does not replace your current mailing address, it would remain the same, such as:
P.O. Box XXX,
Shebandowan ON. P0T 2T0.
Please assist us by doing the following once your sign has been installed on your property:
Permanent residents are to change your Driver’s Licence and Registration, Health Card and Outdoors Card to coincide with this new property address as soon as possible at your local Service Ontario office or go on-line HYPERLINK “http://www.ServiceOntario.ca” www.ServiceOntario.ca then click English, then at bottom of page beside Service Ontario click on Update your address, (this link will allow you to change your address on your Driver’s licence, Health card & Outdoor card at the same time). No fees charged, simply type in Change of Address in Search box to get all three government services)
All residents are to Inform your Insurance company & Hydro One of the new property address
Remember that the 9-1-1 emergency telephone number is not in effect and will not work until we notify you at a later date, to be advised.
Please continue using our current emergency telephone numbers.
Yours truly,
Shebandowan Local Services Board
Property Addressing / 911 Emergency Communication
Update: September 8, 2017
Hello Fellow Campers and Residents,
Below is a brief update of our 911 Project. Much has occurred this year and we remain on track to have the system up and running late spring 2018.
– Through this past winter our consultant DJS and Associates completed assigning property address numbers and prepared draft maps locating individual properties with the associated property address numbers
– DJS and associates were back on site in May of this year to review their work and minor corrections were made to their data as required.
– MTO Highway Road sign information was submitted to the MTO and actual signs were installed early this summer (June / July).
– Following their site visit, DJS and Associates finalized property addressing, mapping and prepared and submitted the necessary spreadsheets to allow your LSB to obtain competitive pricing for the purchase of address signs and posts.
– During the LSB’s regular public mtg in August, the competitive pricing was reviewed and orders issued to the following companies:
o Property Address Signs purchased from Stinson-Owlite
o Mounting Posts & installing hardware purchased from T. Bay Farm Co-Op
– Costs associated with these purchases were significantly under budget. Delivery of the components will occur late Sept. / early Oct.
– A request for quotations (RFQ) will be drafted up related to the installation of the signs and tenders called to complete the installation of Branch Road signs and individual Property signs. We will target to have the installation of signs completed by late spring 2018.
– Communication has been ongoing with the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines (MNDM). We have received confirmation that our request for the Power of Emergency Communication is in order and working its way through the Ministry. We anticipate our application will be approved and the power granted spring 2018.
Your LSB thanks you for your ongoing support in this important project.

Update: October 21, 2016
Phase – I Gathering Field Data During the latter half of August 2016, DJS and Associates were onsite for approximately ten days to collect field date and complete the initial survey of all roads and properties within the LSB Boundaries. Our existing Fire Rd maps were used as “base line” information to start the process. The process involved determining the co-ordinates of all roads off of the main Highways #11-17, #11 and #586. Coordinates were also taken of all branch roads. Driveways serving individual properties were also identified and plotted. Through this process, roads and branch roads were confirmed which require naming based on the following criteria: – Roads off the main Highways which serve five (5) or more properties will receive MTO Highway Signage. – Branch roads which serve five (5) or more properties will receive Branch Road Signage Each individual driveway (property) will receive a Property Address Number Sign. The LSB would like to acknowledge and thank Fire Chief Tracy Johnson and Deputy Fire Chief Richard Baxter for their knowledge and assistance in this process. A second field visit will be made (target mid May 2017) to confirm all date is correct prior to assigning individual Property Address Numbers.
Phase –II Signage The purchase of the supply and installation of MTO Highway Signage is targeted for early 2017 (Jan / Feb). The Signage size, colour,
installation location(s) etc. is determined by the MTO in accordance with their specifications. Installation timing is at the discretion of the MTO, but it is hoped the installation will be completed by late summer. Branch Road signs will be purchased during the same timeframe as the Highway Signage. To reduce costs, it is anticipated that installation of the Branch Road Signs can be completed by volunteers and individual Roads Boards. Installation is targeted for the early fall of 2017. Individual Property Address Number Signs will not be purchased until after the final field verification trip is completed in May 2017. It is anticipated installation of individual Property Signage will occur late fall 2017 or spring 2018.
Phase – III 911 Emergency Communication Service Implementation The actual implementation of Emergency Communication Services will commence after the installation of all Signage is complete and the LSB is granted the power to do so. This process is expected to be complete and operational late spring / early summer 2018.
