Local Services Boards were formed originally under the Northern Services Board Act (NSBA) to facilitate the delivery of basic community services in unincorporated areas in Northern Ontario. A Local Services Board has the authority under the NSBA to deliver any combination of nine (9) approved powers within a specific geographical area. Currently the Shebandowan Local Services Board provides Fire Protection Services.
We are a tax based department that is funded through a Local Services Board that sets tax rates dependent on the needs of the fire department. We are governed under policies set in place by the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. We also receive compensation when our department responds to emergencies on our area highways and forests. Donations are always welcome.
