One of the major aims of the Shebandowan Lake Campers Association (SLCA) Inc. is:

To work towards the preservation of the high quality of the recreational land and watershed and towards enhancement of the enjoyment of the area by Association members.

We need you, the camper or permanent resident, to be a member of this Association so we can continue to provide a strong voice when dealing with various government agencies in order to preserve the natural attributes of the lake.

A few of the accomplishments of the Association included:

  • Worked diligently with various government agencies to preserve the quality of the lake and surroundings when the Inco mine went into operation.
  • Promoted the establishment of a Restricted Area Order on the Lake to regulate development.
  • Convinced the Provincial Government to use non-toxic chemicals in fighting the budworm infestation.
  • Instrumental in convincing the Provincial Government in establishing fish sanctuaries on the Lake to protect spawning of pickerel.
  • Promoted, through our newsletter, the Canada Day and Pie Day events that were held at the Community Centre.
  • Provided financial assistance to the Volunteer Shebandowan Fire and First Response Team.
  • Collect water samples for testing of the lake quality.
  • Test for invasive species that can harm the lake.

These are just a few of the activities that the volunteer Executive has accomplished over the years.

Your Membership also includes:

  • Our ‘Loon Call’ newsletters
  • Invitation to the SLCA Annual General Meeting
  • Membership in FOCA

FOCA is a non-profit, voluntary organization representing over 500 Ontario cottage associations of individual and corporate members. For over 40 years FOCA has served as an information centre for assistance and leadership on many crucial issues affecting cottage properties.

We need your support.

To keep our Association strong, please purchase a membership. Come to our Annual General Meeting which is held in early May of each year to hear what activities are planned or have taken place. It’s a chance to find out what’s happening, listen to guest speakers and socialize with other campers.
If you feel strongly about an issue, volunteer to become a member of our Executive or join an ad hoc committee to have your voice heard.
